Policy and Research
This section provides an overview of key issues for consideration in relation to policy and research on topics related to children and HIV. Policy and research are purposely considered together because of the importance of policy being informed by evidence. The role of research is to provide evidence that can provide guidance to policies and programmes. It has been argued in the recent JLICA report 2009 Home Truths: Facing the Facts on Children, AIDS, and Poverty that responses to children and HIV to date , have not been based on evidence of children’s circumstances, or a clear understanding of the root causes of children’s vulnerability. This is where research plays a crucial role, and can support policies and programmes that have a maximum impact. This section will be updated regularly to reflect the most current policy and research information. In all the individual technical areas covered in the site there are also links to key pieces of policy and research which support good practice.
